Finally, back on the road.

IMG_0002Firstly, apologies for not updating the site in so long. We became acutely aware that until we had some specific news, there seemed to be nothing we could really update you all on… Other than to say “We’re still here”. Life then also has a habit of taking over. One of the problems of making a self-funded film like this is that you have to do some ‘normal’ work once in a while!

Finally though, we have something exciting to talk about!

After several disappointments and false leads, we had some great news toward the end of 2014, when editor Aki Mizutani joined us on the FTMH team. Geoff and I met Aki in Tokyo on one of our first trips and she immediately impressed us with her work and her approach. She loved the idea for the film but events worked against us in taking anything further.

The delay in early 2014 meant however that we were able to get back in touch and thankfully, Aki agreed to take on the project. She came to London for 10 days in December to start editing and made a great start – producing a first cut of the complete film. It was great to see everything finally come to life and we’ll now work back and forth online to get everything finished.

Working out of Cutters in Tokyo, Aki edited ‘The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom’, a fantastic film which was Oscar nominated in 2012. You can check out the trailer for this here.

Thank you all for your patience and support. We can’t tell you enough how much it means to us and how much we want to get this film finished. We should be able to update you soon on when this will be but it won’t be too much longer. We’ve been busy getting some deals in place while we’ve been away so have some other good news, which we can hopefully tell you soon.

here we go

Here we go!

After a couple of months ‘radio silence’ we’re finally back and blogging! We’ve not been off sunning ourselves on beaches or taking a long holiday, far from it… Most of the last two months has been spent in darkened rooms staring at a screen!

Before we could start editing the film, we needed to review all the footage, name and number all the files and load it into the system at the edit house. That meant nearly two months of long nights for Geoff and Doug (Note from Doug: It was mainly Geoff… Sorry Geoff), systematically going through the thousands of files shot during our three trips. In total, something like 12tb of digital material. For the non-techies among you, that’s about 40 x the capacity of a normal laptop.

We delivered the final drive last week and editing is set to go from the end of this week. We’ll keep you posted on everything as we go, along with some behind the scenes stuff. We also have a great announcement to make about the editing, which will will be along soon but there’s a clue in the picture.

We’ve got lots of other news to catch up on with you – Including a shoot in the UK with someone very well known and Doug breaking his arm in an obscure ‘being silly’ incident – So watch the blog and the Facebook page. If you haven’t ‘liked’ us yet – get straight over there. More soon!
